Present Yourself at Your Best in Your MBA Application Essays

Here are some helpful DO’s and DON’Ts that will help you create a distinctive MBA application essay: DON’T write an essay that simply discusses what you think the adcom wants to hear. INSTEAD†¦ DO write about a topic that truly interests you, something that you’d genuinely like to share. *** DON’T pressure yourself to write something extraordinary. INSTEAD†¦ DO focus on writing something real. The genuine ordinary presented well is usually more impressive and credible than the phony extraordinary. *** DON’T use a voice that is not your own. Don’t try and be funny if you’re not a particularly witty person. Don’t use big words if they’re not words you’d use in a day-to-day conversation. INSTEAD†¦ DO write like you speak (though please make sure that it’s polite and polished). *** DON’T write about OTHER people. INSTEAD†¦ DO write about yourself! *** The adcom wants to learn about YOU. Make sure that your essays (and your application as a whole) reflect the true you! Be yourself and you’ll end up with distinctive, unique application essays. //
